The records include what seems to be a complete set of minutes for the Board of Foreign Missions (Komites für Heidenmission) of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States from 1919-1928. There are none available for 1929. There are also minutes for the Board of Foreign Missions of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Australia, with which the Iowa Synod cooperated in the administration of the New Guinea field, and of the Board of Trustees for the German property. The major portion of the records is minutes that have been labeled District and Conference Minutes by a prior processor. Because the records are in German, the makeup of the conferences is unclear. They seem to be primarily conferences held in the Finschhafen area. They are arranged chronologically. In addition to minutes, these records contain correspondence with the British and Australian governments and official documents related to the legal right of the two Boards of Foreign Mission noted above to administer the work in New Guinea. The majority of the records is in German. The later records represent the work of the American Lutheran Church, the successor body to the Iowa Synod (see ALC 29 and ALC 29/8).
