Subject Files 1962-1987.

The records were collected by Arthur O.F. Bauer, director for interpretation for the Board of World Missions from 1964-1972 and for the Division for World Mission and Ecumenism from 1973-1987. The files are arranged alphabetically and cover a wide range of subjects. There are files labeled with the names of individuals. Most of these note the reason for the file such as deputation, visit, or, in the case of Anna Kugler, a brochure about her life. There are files on promotional pieces, such as mailings (to people either working with missions, providing financial support to missions, or just interested in missions), newsletters ("Mission Happener," "Mission Series," "World Engagement"), and study materials (Preach for Mission). One grouping of files was labeled Nationals and contains correspondence with overseas nationals working, studying, or traveling in the United States. Bauer's correspondence with these individuals indicates that most accepted some form of USA mission interpretation duties. There are files on annual study tours of students from Kumamoto, Japan, to the United States. Listed variously as Jogakuin, Gakuin, and Joga Kuin, they are nevertheless from the same institution and are filed under Japan, Kumamoto, Kyushu Gakuin Study Tours. They include itineraries, correspondence, and lists of participants. Finally, there are files on individual or one-time projects. Some of these are a grant to the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia for the 450th anniversary celebration of the Augsburg Confession, the Satre Memorial Fund, Fish Pin Project, and Fjellman Project.
