Covers the following wars: Civil War, Spanish American War, World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII), Korean War, Vietnam War. Contains photographs of the following military unit: United States (U.S.) Army Signal Corps. General description of the collection: The Signal Corps Miscellaneous photograph collection includes a catch-all of many miscellaneous holdings each having something to do with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. The first and second boxes contain photos that basically chronicle the history of the Signal Corps from 1861-1961, numerous photos dealing with the Signal Corps centennial celebration; photos of various Signal Corps schools throughout the U.S. during WWI; numerous photos of various types of Signal Corps equipment from Wig-Wag flags through modern telephone systems. Photos of the Greeley Relief Expedition, the Signal Corps operations in the various wars since it's incaption, Signal Corps depots and maintenance areas and Signal Corps commanders. One box is totally devoted to a STRATCOM picnic in 1965 and another box to Signal Corps activities and equipment during the Vietnam War. For anyone working on a history of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and needing photographic documentation, the perusal of this collection is a must.

Congress passed a resolution creating a national weather service on February 9, 1870, and it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. This new law directed the Secretary of War to take meterological observations and provide warnings of approaching storms. The Brevet Brigadier General Albert J.
