Description of a journey made in 1776 in a part of the Alps in the Canton of Berne by the Reverend Jac. Sam. Wyttenbach, pastor of the Grand Hospital and member of the Economical Society of Berne, translated from the translation in French by Mr. Sinner author of the catalogue of mss at Berne by T.P. 1822, 1776, 1823.

Phillipps translates Wyttenbach's journal into English from a French version by Jean Rudolph Sinner. Wyttenbach, with a painter he names as Mr. Wolf, traveled through the area of Berne, Switzerland, and particularly the Lauterbrunn district (Thun, Neuhaus, Unterseen, the River Aar, Grindelwald, the Eiger, the Jungfrau and Staubach) with the aim of contributing to a natural history of Switzerland. Emphasis throughout is on geographical and geological features (streams, soil, rock), agriculture, and fisheries. He describes the scenery, glaciers, several avalanches and the way people earn their living. After 51 pages, Phillipps notes that the work will be continued in the original French; that section (35 pp.), transcribed by Harriet Phillipps, starts at the other end of the (reversed) book. There are four pages of pencil drawings and a page of explanations of the drawings.
