Letter, 1919 January 11, San Francisco [to] Edwin Markham, [Staten Island, New York] / Bailey Millard. 1919.

Millard tells that he is writing a series of articles about prominent poets and their poetry and asks Markham to let him know what he has been doing since 1915 when he last received a letter from him. Millard intends to quote from it in the articles about Markham. Millard has been managing the San Francisco Bulletin for the past six months and he is doing very well financially. Letter written on Bulletin letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
