The Haydon L. Boatner papers, 1900-1971.

Contains the following types of materials: correspondence, memoirs, reports / studies. Contains information pertaining to the following wars: World War II (WWII), Korean War. General description of the collection: Haydon L. Boatner papers include an account of his service as chief of staff to General Joseph Stilwell in southeast Asia during WWII (1971) written in rebuttal to various statements made in Barbara Tuchman's book on Stilwell. Papers also contain a narrative of Boatner's service in the China-Burna-India Theater, official wartime correspondence and intelligence reports with some information provided by Japanese prisoners. Some references to his service before and after WWII are included. A letter from Professor John K. Fairbank (1971) summarizes Boatner's entire career. Added material concerns the battles of Bloody Ridge, Heartbreak Ridge and Mundung-ni Valley (August 18-October 24, 1951) in the Korean War with an account by divisional headquarters, reminiscences, a battle map, and five photographs of Bloody Ridge.
