Correspondence, Program Files 1952-1963.

The records contain correspondence, financial records, subject files, the proceedings of several conferences, and a record of the process leading up to the merger of the ULCA, Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (Suomi Synod), and the American (Danish) Evangelical Lutheran Church to form the Lutheran Church in America. A portion of the records relates to Augustana and Suomi. Part of the correspondence is arranged by date, the rest by the group or person (board members, president of board, congress, etc.) with whom Erb was corresponding. A major portion of the files that Erb had designated "conference files" dealt with a major mission policy conference held in 1957. The files dealing with the merger contain documents from the individual church bodies approaching the merger, as well as records from the Joint Committee on Luthern Unity, which crafted the details of the merger. Financial records, though divided into Financial Reports and Treasurer's Reports, as indicated by their cover titles, include much of the same kind of information, covering different time spans. They are arranged chronologically. Subject files, arranged alphabetically, range from cooperative work with other bodies and conferences to U.S. missionary furlough property owned by ULCA to publications and statements of the BFM. Box 2 contains records from the correspondence, conferences, and merger sections, placed together in a legal-sized box due to their size.
