Papers of a Charlotte lawyer and conservative political activist from his days as a student at Davidson College and UNC-Chapel Hill. Includes correspondence and ephemera documenting his involvement with numerous conservative political and religious groups, including the North Carolina Congressional Club, the Young Republicans, and Birthchoice, an anti-abortion group. Also includes material about his involvement with the Charlotte Jaycees and his unsuccessful political campaigns. The collection is comprised primarily of correspondence dealing with Beard's conservative political activities. There are few personal papers or correspondence. The collection extensively documents his long-time support for the Republican party and its ancillary organizations.
