Contains the following type of materials: Photographs. Covers the following war and/or time period: 1916-1981. Contains photographs of the following unit and organization: U.S. Army War College. The DeWitt C. Smith collection consists of photographs that General Smith donated partly during his tenure at the Army War College and partly afer his retirement. Although there are a few photos dealing with miscellaneous other subjects, the collection primarily contains public affairs-type photos from the Army War College from 1974 to 1977. There are a few photos from his father's service in World War I, and several photos of the famous D-Day cricket. Additionally, there are a few candid photos of General Smith between 1961 and 1981.

DeWitt Clinton Smith, Jr. was a United States (U.S.) Army officer who served in the European Theater of Operations of World War II (WWII), the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He rose to the rank of lieutenant general and was commandant of the U.S. Army War College in 1974.
