Papers, 1801-1863.

The collection consists of correspondence, drafts or copies of legislative acts and bills, addresses, legal papers, notes, minutes and other papers of various organizations and committees, lists of names for various purposes, printed circulars, maps, accounts, statistics, etc., from 1801 to 1863. Many of the letters and papers for 1801-1815 pertain to the settlement of the estate of Ichabod Brush of Demerara, British Guiana, and Huntington, Long Island, with Bradish acting as executor. They relate particularly to Brush's plantation "Vigilance" in Demerara, and involve John, Ebenezer and other members of the Brush family, Martin S. Wilkins, Bolton & Littledale of Liverpool, D. M. Randolph of London, and the London firm of Tod & Co. Other papers pertain to Bradish and his purchasing of a major part of the town of Moira, in Franklin County, New York; a lenghthy account of his voyage to Gibralter on the U.S.S. Columbus; a 36-page report of his trip to Turkey to discuss the possibility of a trade treaty; his short-lived marriage to Helen Elizabeth Gibbs; the Whig Party, state politics, elections; roads in St. Lawrence County; relief for the Greeks in 1827; establishment of a dry dock and marine railway in New York City; a proposed railroad in Berkshire; and his philanthropic efforts with institutions such as the American Agricultural Association, the Free Academy, Trinity Church, and many others.
