The Actors' Equity Association Theatrical Programs collection is made up of programs collected by the organization, its employees and friends, dating from 1913 to 2001. Series I. New York City, Regional Theaters and Touring Productions/Companies, 1913-2001, consists of programs for productions produced in New York City, theaters around the country, touring productions, including out-of-town tryouts, and touring companies. The series is, for the most part, arranged alphabetically. The general files that begin each letter are arranged chronologically, and are followed by an alphabetical list of productions and companies. A production is listed individually if it has had more than one production, is of theatrical significance, or ran for an extended period of time. For plays that are sometimes produced under variant forms of a title, for example some Shakespeare plays, all programs are grouped together under the most commonly used version of the title. Series II. Equity Library Theatre, New York City, 1944-1989, Equity Library Theatre (ELT) staged productions from 1944-1989 as a showcase for Equity talent. Because they were a seasonal company, the programs for this series are arranged chronologically. Production lists and other ELT activities such as childrens theater, informal presentations and benefits are included in the files.

Equity Library Theatre (ELT) was started in 1943 by actor Sam Jaffe, a representative of the Actor's Equity Association, and George Freedley, the curator of the Theatre Collection of the New York Public Library.
