Jonathan Bowman (1703/04-1775) graduated from Harvard College in the class of 1724 (M.A., 1727). He was a conservative churchman, though popular, and was settled at the First Congregational Church in Dorchester, Mass., in 1729; he remained until dismission after a dispute with the congregation late in 1773. Charles C. Cushing (b. Oakland, Calif., Dec. 8, 1905; d. Berkeley, Calif., April 14, 1982) professor and composer. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley (BA, MA) and won the Paris Prize Fellowship (1929), which took him to the Ecole Normale de Musique for composition lessons with Nadia Boulanger; he also studied violin, viola, clarinet, and piano.
