Bills, 1616?-1778, with the bulk of these household bills (2-44) dating from the time of Sir Robert Clayton's marriage, ca. 1659, to ca. 1675, and often including his partner and fellow scrivener John Morris; with similar 18th century bills, 1705-1778 (61-70). Also includes: bill for linens to Viscount Villiers, later duke of Buckingham, 1616? (1); two bonds; a mortgage by William Cutler to Sir Thomas Foote, baronet, May 25, 1666 (35); an appraisal of the goods or tools in the shop of the late John Southernes, also referred to as John Southwell, a blacksmith, July 14, 1669; a list of "your" lordship's servants and their wages according to what paid by lord keeper North, and other fees, 1683?. Papers of George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, 1666-1685, consisting of business transactions with Sir Robert Clayton and John Morris. Includes orders to pay addressed by Buckingham to Clayton and Morris as his trustees and financial agents, often receipted by his servants; a deputation appointing John Wildman as the duke's receiver, January 20, 1675/76; order from Mary Villiers, Duchess of Buckingham, August 4, 1668 (88); and other papers. Among the signatories on the orders are: Martin Clifford and Stephen Monteage, March 29, 1666 (71); Brian Fairfax, September 11, 1667 (73); George Searle, January 20, 1675/6 (82); Thomas Leman, March 25, 1676 (83); and Sir Robert Gayer, George Bradbury and Sir John Hoskyns, May 26, 1683 (86).
