Autograph letter signed from Louisa H. Merivale to E.V. Utterson [manuscript], 19th century.

Merivale describes Kean's acting and the audience reaction: "in the fight between him and Richmond, he surpassed himself, and our most sanguine expectations, the pit ... rose up unanimously ... " The Kean referenced is probably Edmund Kean. Performance in question is either Henry VI, Part 3 or J.H. Merivale's adaptation of the Henry VI plays, "Richard, Duke of York."
