Autograph letters signed from J. Noël Paton, Edinburgh, to various recipients [manuscript], 1866.

Recipients: C. Roach Smith (1-4) and H. Rimbault, Esq. (5). Letters concern F.W. Fairholt's original sketches for the Halliwell-Phillipps edition of Shakespeare, willed to Paton but destroyed in a railway accident: "with exception of a life, no loss could have grieved me more." All letters written from 33 George Square, Edinburgh. (1) accompanied by envelope addressed to C. Roach Smith at Strood, near Rochester. (3-5) on mourning paper.
