Autograph letter signed from Jas. Sharp, Leamington Spa, to Robert Southey [manuscript], 1830 April 3.

Sharp indicates the Royal Shakespearean Club's desire that Southey write an ode to Shakespeare for an upcoming festival. The ode is intended to be recited at Shakespeare's Birthplace and at the Shakspearean Hall, either by Mr. Kean or some other celebrated actor of the day. Also, an envelope labelled: "Letter containing a proposal that Ed. Kean should recite an ode in commemoration of Shakespeare's Birth." Southey identified in pencil annotation on letter; letter is addressed "Dear Sir."
