Burnett, Mrs. Mable Saunders, Mrs. Saraphene Vaugh, Mrs. Emma S. Davis, C.J. Jordan, Mrs. Lottie Y. Hopkin, Mrs. Lucile H. Kennedy, Mrs. Bernice C. Coleman and Miss. M. Weaver. Born into a Quaker home in the late 19th century, Anna Mae Paschal Stong began her education at Southland College, a Quaker School in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas. Anna Mae Paschal Strong was married to Wilford A. Strong, a contractor and builder, with whom she had two children. Born in South Carolina in 1875, Mary McLeod Bethune attended Scotia Seminary and Moody Bible Institute. Appointed by President Roosevelt as the Director of the Division of Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration, Bethune was the first African American woman to hold so high an office in the federal government. Mrs. Alma S. Connor was born May 5, 1896 in Marianna, and died April 16, 1980. She was the daughter of Martin and Nettie Taylor Stubblefield. She married Dr. D.J. Connor in 1919. Mrs. Connor was a public school teacher and a music teacher in Marianna, Helena, Forrest City and Trenton. Her organizational memberships included Lee County Retired Teachers' Association, President of the Fleur-De-Lis Social Club, and many church activities, community drives, and campaigns. She is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
