Negative taken of A.H. Miller on his first dray in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas from the book "How I Succeeded In My Business" by Rev. A.H. Miller published in 1911. In February of 1851, Rev. Abraham H. Miller was born a slave in St. Francis County, Arkansas. Miller moved with his mother to Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas following the Civil War. He then moved to St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri for two years, but returned to Helena. After attended Southland College in Helena, Miller went into business with a dray (delivery cart) and soon expanded into real estate. When Abraham H. Miller bought his first dray and a horse, he had to hire Burrel Graves to drive it for him while he was employed by Mr. Curtis. Miller continued to work for Mr. Curtis and hired others to work with his dray and horse which eventually gave him enough money to buy three drays and horses. Miller was elected by the people of his county to serve as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1875-76. He was ordained a Baptist minister about 1900 and ministered at the Centennial Baptist Church in Helena. He was Treasurer of the Arkansas Baptist College Trustees and a member of the Home Mission Board of the National Baptist Convention. He built and was pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at Arkadelphia, Clark County, Arkansas. In 1887, he married Eliza Ann Ross with whom he had five children who lived to adulthood including Maria L., Lucian S., Katie May, George B. and Robert M.
