Negative taken of Dr. D.B. Gaines, who was the pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at 1400 Ringo Street in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas from 1900 until his death in 1946 at age 83 years old. The church was organized in 1875. After purchasing the present location from the St. Phillips Episcopal Church, Mount Pleasant erected the brick edifice with two towers and stained glass windows in 1904. In addition to his responsibilities as pastor, Gaines was a prominent medical doctor and wrote a book entitled "Racial Possibilities as Indicated by the Negroes of Arkansas" that was published in 1898.
