Henry told the bookseller to send the Sturge Moore Booklets to Edwin. He thanks him for the note to the Howells. He was in Boston and then I sailed and now he is home. When he was a way he had ineresting talks with Griggs, Traubel, Herron, W S Kennedy, L Maynard, Peter Doyle, Harned and J Hubley Ashton of Washington. He couldn't see Mr Murphy. He enjoyed Mrs. Maynard's look at Whitman and saw proofs of D. Platt's.rf.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
