Mexican photograph albums of a German resident [graphic]. 1884-1903, bulk 1891-1903.

Largely views taken on outings to various parts of Mexico, apparently by groups of Germans residing there. Many views are group portraits, some of which are identified as a German gymnastic club. Several picture men drinking beer. Other views are of scenic landscapes, native plants, antiquities, streets, villages, local inhabitants, railroads, and industry. Of note are several images of the construction of a paper mill at San Rafael. Many of the views are in San Rafael and Vera Cruz, but also included are views in La Canada de Contreras, Guadalajara, Tacubaya, Cuernevaca, Xochimilco, San Lorenzo, Ixtacalco, the caves of Cacahuamilpa, and numerous other locations.

Briquet was a French photographer that worked in Mexico. He was commissioned to photograph the railways being constructed at the start of Porfirio Diaz's presidency. He also shot natural portraits of Mexican life and images depicting the growth of cities and the development of the country through the turn of the century.
