William wrote Edwin some time ago, asking if he could include an anthology called "Poems for Youth which is part of the series of books known as King's Treasuries, to include with his Man with the Hoe, Lincoln, and Man of the People. It has been edited by Prof. Henry S. Canby and E.P. Dutton & Co. He would like Edwin's permission to use his poems.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
