DeKalb papers, 1888-1931.

Correspondence, mine reports, mine research, industry and literary publications, speeches, notebooks, photographs and mine blueprints documenting the work of Courtenay DeKalb. There are patents and government reports on mining in the western United States, Mexico, Morocco, Spain and Portugal. There are photographs of DeKalb, his family, and the Roadside Mine. There is family correspondence and business correspondence. Correspondents include Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge, John C. Greenway, the Ford Motor Company, James Douglas, Epes Randolph, H.E. Huntingdon, Jack Burgess, Col. William F. Cody's mining company, the president of Stanford University and Madame Marie Curie. Correspondence includes descriptions of Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. There are correspondence, blueprints, reports, and store ledgers relating to the Roadside Mine. Also present are plays, novels, and poems written by DeKalb, and correspondence and poems by Francis DeKalb.

Mining engineer; managed mines in California, Mexico and the Roadside Mine near Tucson which he opened in 1921. He was associate editor of the Mining and Scientific Press. In 1913, he married his second wife, Frances Douglas, a scholar known for translation of Spanish writers. Frances was married to Charles Lummis from 1891 to 1911.
