Joshua Saxton Raynolds was born in Canton, Ohio to Madison and Sara Raynolds. Raynolds lived in Central City, Colorado before moving to New Mexico in 1876. In the same year he established the Central Bank of Las Vegas, with his brothers Jefferson and Frederick. The bank later became the First National Bank of Las Vegas and was one of the most important financial institutions in New Mexico at the time. Sandoval County, New Mexico was established in 1903 and formed part of the 2nd Judicial District of the United States Territorial Courts in New Mexico.
