James Taylor, the son of Col. James Taylor, was born on Apr. 19, 1769 in Caroline County, Virginia. He was educated at Rappahannock Academy. In 1788 Taylor was commissioned as surveyor of Caroline County and was made deputy sheriff. William Hull (1753-1825) was a lawyer and a soldier. He served in the Revolutionary War and afterwards in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Brigadier-General. In 1805 he was appointed Governor of the Michigan Territory. In 1812 he was court-martialed and cashiered from the Army because of the failure of his campaign into Canada against the British.
