She describes her education and teaching experience, marriage to Rexford Mitchell, and their life in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he served as president of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse from 1939-1966. She details campus life and faculty, her involvement in the Campus Dames social organization for faculty wives, and her volunteer activities. She also discusses her husband's career and philosophy.
