Two letters written May 25, 1857, describing sawmilling at St. Anthony Falls and real estate speculation in the Mississippi Valley. Dr. Samuel Seabury wrote the letters in St. Paul to his children in May 1857. The letter to his daughter Ellen has an excellent letterhead depicting the Fuller House Hotel and contains descriptions of St. Paul and St. Anthony, including a detailed account of a sawmilling operation in St. Anthony. The second letter, written to his son Will, has more description of St. Paul and a detailed account of real estate speculation in the Upper Mississippi Valley region, including Dubuque, Iowa, and La Crosse, Wisconsin.
