Collection of poems and papers by John Baynes and others [manuscript], ca. 1685-ca. 1727.

Includes epitaphs on William III, Awbury Freeman, William Smith, Sir Christopher Calthorp and George I, poems on the return of Charles II and to Sir Henry Bedingfield, and several letters, 2 of which are to Matthew Baynes from Thomas Atherton and Richard Foster, and 2 to John Covel from John Baynes. The majority of these men were fellow students at Christ's College, Cambridge. Also an epigram for Sir Henry Bedingfield by C. Parkins, a list of the masters of several Cambridge colleges and a list of M.P.s, 1701. Written in several hands.

George I was the first Hanover king of England, claiming the throne through his mother, Sophia, great granddaughter of King James I. His succession was orchestrated to ensure a Protestant ruler. The letter was written before the Prince of Orange's ascension to the throne of England in 1689 along with his wife Mary, his first cousin whom he married in 1677. They served jointly on the English throne.
