David C. Sweet was born on May 16, 1939. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester in 1961 and his Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1963. Sweet was awarded a Ph. While 1908 is viewed as the year of Youngstown State University's birth, its heritage extends further back in time. In 1884, a chapter of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) was founded in the steel-producing city of Youngstown, Ohio.
