Responding to a letter, and wishing to one day visit Mr. and Mrs. Field in America, but noting that "as the years go by it becomes more unlikely that [he] can get so far away from this country." Thanking him for a favor, and discussing poetry and society in Washington, supposing it has a predominantly political tone. Discussing Ireland. The final two pages consist of a letter to Mrs. Field.
