Papenfuss discusses his childhood, recreation, and work history in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He describes working as a cigar maker in several cigar factories, including the Pamperin & Wiggenhorn Cigar Company in La Crosse. He recalls his World War I service in the trenches in France. He also details his longtime employment as a janitor for the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse, mentioning interaction with several members of the university faculty and administration.
