[Letters] 1876 May, Greenville, S.C. to "Dear Papa" [John A. Broadus] / Annie H. Broadus. 1876 May 6-28.

May 4: Annie talks about Alice's measles, and reminds "Papa" about rhubarb pills, to be sent by mail. May 5: she answers a letter from him, and talks about hearing from "Sister" [Eliza S. Broadus] concerning her trip to New York. She talks about the difficulties of paying bills, and asks what to do about letters from prospective students requesting information. On May 10, Annie wrote two letters. She reports on Alice's convalecence, and about a visit from C.H. Toy. In her second note of the 10th, she sends him the family's reaction to an article in the Boston Globe describing his "stout" figure and his sermons. May 12: Ellie was now getting sick, and Alice was almost well. May 13: "Grandma" [Somerville Broadus] has consulted the doctor about "a place on her breast," and they are running short on household staples. May 20: lists the books Broadus has overdue [University of South Carolina Library]. The baby [Boyce Broadus] has the measles and "he is more trouble than both the others." May 22: Sends Broadus a letter from "Uncle Frank Smith" which needs an immediate reply. "Baby is very troublesome," but "Grandma is feeling stronger." May 28: Reports that "Baby is better." Dr. [William] Williams and his family are moving to Ashville, and Williams has offered his winter wood supply to "Ma." Broadus was professor of New Testament, homiletics and in charge of the student fund, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1876.
