Robert Bloch papers, 1953-1984.

Description: The collection contains the letters of science fiction novelist Robert Bloch, best known for his 1959 book Psycho, to Vernon Shea and Bruce Walker. The letters are of a personal nature, although they contain a good deal of information on the science fiction writing community of the time, particularly the writings of Harlan Ellison, Phillip Jose Farmer, H.P. Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, and other of Bloch's works. Included is a short screenplay by Vernon Shea and Bloch's critique of it.

Robert Bloch was best known as the author of "Psycho." He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1917. He attended schools in Maywood, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He worked as a free lance writer from 1934-1942. He then spent 11 years as a copywriter for a Milwaukee advertising agency before returning to freelance writing in 1953.
