Scrapbook, 1861-1901.

Scrapbooks contains holograph transcription of 40 letters written in German from 1861-1864 by Charles F. Engle during his Civil War service as sergeant with Co. K of the 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. A letter of June 15, 1862 contains a [battle?] diagram. Pasted in the book are clippings about President Lincoln, General Emerson Opdycke, a 1876 speech of Col. Robert Ingersoll nominating James G. Blaine for president, and an obituary of Rev. John Philip Conradi. Also included are two loose newspaper articles: an obituary and an article from the Ashland Times written by Engle about his life and his service as a correspondent for that newspaper.
