J. Nelson Frierson papers, 1911 June 1-1959 Dec. 18.

Correspondence, writings, and miscellaneous items relating to Frierson's career as law professor and dean of University of South Carolina School of Law. Included are alumni related items from the School of Law at Columbia University and estate papers of Samuel A. Horn, Ormsby Bourke Tilton, and E.M. Rucker; correspondents include Alma B. Adams, Frank H. Bailey, Solomon Blatt, Anne King Gregorie, Daniel W. Hollis, Olin D. Johnston, Richard B. Morris, Francis S. Philbrick, and Yates Snowden. Includes newspaper clippings, notes, and draft of Frierson's paper "Divorce in South Carolina," published in N.C. Law Review (vol. 9, 1931); writings on legal history, and his book, Records of the Court of Chancery of South Carolina, 1670-1779, published in collaboration with Anne King Gregorie in 1950, and archival preservation of historic documents in South Carolina, including Duke University professor [Robert H.] Woody's "Report on the South Carolina Archives" and anonymous report, "Charleston Archives Prior to 1783." Other items reflect Frierson's involvement in the 1950s on behalf of humanitarian causes, chiefly South Carolina Tuberculosis Association and South Carolina Association for the Blind.
