The collection contains five categories of audiovisual materials: audio cassettes, reel to reel tapes, videotapes, filmstrips, and motion pictures, and these materials fall into two main categories, recordings and productions. Recordings are of live events put on by the Home Mission Board such as annual meetings, chapel, and conferences at retreat centers in Ridgecrest, North Carolina and Glorieta, New Mexico. Productions were mainly videotapes, filmstrips and motion pictures about various missions emphases such as city missions, refugee missions, language missions, interfaith missions, literacy missions, missions planning, ethnic missions, and youth missions. Contents are in a Microsoft Access database format that notes location, description, material type, date, and additional notes for the specific entry.

The Home Mission Board began work in Cuba in 1886. Work in the country expanded for about a decade, but by the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, nearly all mission activity had been demoralized. At the close of the war, the Board entered an agreement with the American Baptist Home Mission Society under which the eastern half of Cuba was transferred to the Society and the SBC's Home Mission Board retained the western half. Southern Baptist work in Western Cuba flourished through the 1950s....
