Emmert of Killduff, Iowa contracted polio at age 28 in 1950. He talks about growing up on a farm; earning a pilot's license at Central College and serving in World War II as a B52 pilot; contracting polio following his son's illness; spending 3 months undergoing treatment in a hospital in Iowa City; rehabilitation and therapyin Warm Springs, Georgia; learning to walk with crutches and a brace; and working as a middle school math teacher and retiring after 32 years.
