Peter J. Perrine, private in Company C of the 16th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, records details of the regiment's organization at Camps Tiffin and Dennison, its marches, and its battles throughout its three year service from September 1861 to July 1864, including. Written in half of a pocket-size 1864 perpetual calendar, Perrine's memorandum ignores the pre-printed dates, with a chronology of noteworthy activity, including names of commanding officers, positions, involved units, and number of casualties. With the journal is a carte de visite photograph of P.J. Perrine, taken ca. 1870s by E.H. Train in Helena, Montana.
