James Ralph and Mabel Parks Poe collection, 1885-1969.

Photographs, printed matter, ephemera and writings compiled by the Poes. Much of the material concerns the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. Also included are family images from the Mesilla Valley and Lake Valley. Mabel Parks Poe's writings offer recollections of her childhood at Lake Valley.

James Ralph Poe served as New Mexico's first diary commissioner, a post he held from 1927 until 1955. Mabel Parks Poe, his wife, was a schoolteacher and principal of Mesilla Park School. The couple married in 1911, and operated a dairy farm in the Mesilla Valley. Their three children attended the nearby New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts.
