Samuel James Arnold was a British dramatist and impresario who produced plays from 1794 at various London theatres. In 1809 he obtained permission to stage opera and other musical dramas at the Lyceum. In 1815 he obtained the lease, renamed it the English Opera House, and had the theatre almost completely rebuilt for 80,000 pounds. From the description of S.J. Arnold letter to C.
