Markham enjoyed Myrtella's letter. He is finishing A Star is Water. He would like to be invited again, i believe in the Mid West. He hopes that Mr. Frederick Zeign will remember him again in his next literary convention.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
