Sargent Murray Gilman Hough House collection, 1744-1926.

Collection consists primarily of papers of the Sargent family of Gloucester, Mass. Includes correspondence, deeds, tax receipts, wills, and military commissions of Epes, John, and Daniel Sargent, 1744-1779; Fitz Winthrop, Winthrop, and Ignatius Sargent, 1793-1797, including a bill of sale for the Schooner Sally, 1797; Henry Sargent, 1790s-1830s, including a series of letters while studying in Europe; and L[ucius] M[anlius] and Henry Winthrop Sargent, 1860s, including a series of letters from Henry W. to his uncle Turner Sargent describing his travels in Europe. Collection also includes three boxes of clippings on John Singer Sargent's death, 1925-26; Sargent and Hough family genealogical information; Benjamin Kent Hough's receipts, 1790-1800, and a military commission appointing him to Quartermaster of the Artillery of the First Brigade, Second Division of the Massachusetts Militia; and sketches of the Garden Temple at the Sargent Murray Gilman Hough House in Gloucester, Mass.
