Asked his publisher to send him his book "Pushing to the Front", which is a sort of college student handbook; is translated in many languages and used in many countries; eaven Alexande Rossi of the Italien Parliament recommends his book ih his pamphlet written for college students.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
