This letter is inresponse to Lorna's letter asking for material on her brother. This is a letter that Mrs. Markham wrote Thomas in 1907. Mrs. M tells Thomas that Mr. M has been called away. She wants him to tell her when he is available. She sae that The Juggler of Notre Dame is on the bills to be given to Hammersteins. She discusses Markhams poem The Star of Arab. She also wants him to bring over more Spainsh and Moorish Stories when he comes.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
