The George Thomson Hemingway papers include correspondence, memoranda, data, photographs and reports. The bulk of the collection concerns the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigation (CalCOFI). The collection includes files on CalCOFI history, drafts and correspondence concerning CalCOFI cconferences and agreements, and photographs of CalCOFI cruises. The collection includes correspondence in English and Spanish with marine institutions in Mexico and Peru about oceanographic studies in general and specifically CalCOFI. The collection includes photographs dated 1971-1984, including images of cruises, photographs of marine scientists and colleagues, and ten photographic prints showing the demolition of the old Scripps Intitution of Oceanography Library in August 1977. The collection also includes a 58 minute, 16mm, color, sound film in Spanish entitled, El Instituto de Oceanographia de La Jolla, California, produced by Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Y Tecnologia Mexico in 1981 for public television in Mexico. The film features Spanish speaking staff at SIO, UCSD, discussing their research.
