Israel Putnam journal and orderly book, 1762-1778.

This single volume was put to multiple uses. The first section was kept by an officer with the Duke of Albermarle's forces after the taking of Havana, Cuba, in August 1762, one of the many battles during the French and Indian War. The second section contains daily entries by Israel Putnam during a voyage from New York to the mouth of the Mississippi River, December 1772-March 1773. The voyage was an attempt by the veterans of Havana to claim their bounty of land. Pasted inside the front cover is an oath of allegiance signed by Putnam in 1778.
