Talcott family papers, 1724-1933.

The collection contains papers from several branches of the family. The oldest pieces were sent to Connecticut Governor Joseph Talcott from the Bishop of London. Other correspondence is between Isaac Jones and his son, William Henry Jones, and between William Henry Jones and his son, Henry A. Jones. Years later, William Henry Jones' daughter, Sarah, married Thomas Grosvenor Talcott, a descendant of the Governor. Sarah (Jones) Talcott's correspondence within the collection highlights her involvement with community organizations, such as the U.S. Sanitary Commission and the Hartford Sanitary Association. Documents also demonstrate her involvement with a family property dispute. Helena Barker "Nellie" Talcott, the daughter of Sarah and Thomas Talcott, married William Augustus Muhlenberg Wainwright. The couple's correspondence, particularly letters sent from W.A.M. to Nellie, may also be found within the collection. J. Atwater Barker's letters to a cousin supply additional Barker family history. The Wainwright's daughter, Elizabeth Mayhew Wainwright, married Joseph B. Hall. Together they had a son, Joseph T. Hall. Correspondence and other pieces from the Halls are included in the collection. The collection is arranged chronologically.
