Someone is writing Mr. M telling him of their being on July 9th in Old Parie Conifert Virginia. They will sing six Markham songs and The Cross will be song by a big chorus. Please send your readings. I think this letter is written by Harriet only the initials at the end of the postcard are H.U.K. Maybe she is married now??

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
