Mimeograph report of the 101st Airborne Division's periodic report, dated Dec. 22, 1944 and distributed to forces at Bastogne, reporting the commanding general's response of "NUTS" to a German suggestion of surrender. On the reverse of this report given to Sgt. Joseph G. Pinelli by his Lietenant is a roughly drawn map of the location of German tanks in relation to Pinelli's position.

Historical note: The First Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division was sent to Vietnam in 1965. It was the third United States Army unit to arrive. In December of 1967, the remainder of the division was deployed to Bien Hoa, South Vietnam in Operation Eagle Thrust. The 101st was the only army division ever airlifted directly into combat.
