Records, 1985-1988.

The collection includes the minutes of the meetings of the committee and subcommittees. Also includes reports of subcommittees, attachments to reports and minutes, correspondence from Southern Baptists to the committee and other materials related to the controversy in the SBC. The reports include investigative work by the subcommittee at all of the seminaries and several of the agencies of the SBC. All but three of the committee meetings were audio recorded and the cassette tapes (145 tapes) are a part of the collection.

The Home Mission Board began work in Cuba in 1886. Work in the country expanded for about a decade, but by the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, nearly all mission activity had been demoralized. At the close of the war, the Board entered an agreement with the American Baptist Home Mission Society under which the eastern half of Cuba was transferred to the Society and the SBC's Home Mission Board retained the western half.
